Things to know before you go
Weather
The weather at Napili Point is generally warm year round.
Temperatures are usually in the 70's and 80's. The rainy seasons (November
and January) can be wet, but since Napili Point is on the leeward side of
the island, you won't see as much rain as the windward side. The trade
winds can blow a little bit during the fall and winter, but usually not too
hard. The rest of the year, you can expect sprinkles now and again, but
they very rarely last very long. You can sometimes see squalls traveling
through the Molokai straight while you sit on the lanai waiting for the sunset.
You can pack appropriately for the weather by including
as many shorts and t-shirts as you can. Along with rubber slippers, that's
the usual daily 'uniform' of the island. Most everybody wears aloha shirts
(the correct name for 'Hawaiian shirts'), too.
Internet
Internet via cable modem (ethernet connection - cable is supplied) is
available for a nominal charge - check with the front desk for pricing when checking
in. They'll give you a code that you will type into a default
browser screen when first connecting. That code will identify your
computer to the Internet service. If you have more than one laptop,
consider bringing a cable/dsl router and plugging it in first. Plug your laptops into the router. Then, the
code will be assigned to the router when you first logon with the default browser screen, and you can use each of your laptops
by plugging into the router. The very friendly people at the Internet
company can help you with any questions - the number is in the condo.
Food, Staples and Cooking
The kitchen has practically all of the pots, pans, knives, bowls, and utensils you would need to cook anything you'd like.
There are also storage containers, foil and the like for storing leftovers. You can buy practically any food and some Hawaiian-only food
at any of several grocery stores nearby. I've found that the Star Market at Kahana has everything you need at competitive prices. For
quick trips, Napili Market in Napili Plaza is very close. There's an organic market in Lahaina if you need one. And a Safeway at Lahaina
Cannery Mall and a Foodland in downtown Lahaina; both are always crowded. There is also a Costco near the airport in Kahului, if you're a
member. Keep an eye out for roadside stands, too - they usually have the freshest produce.
If you plan on doing any cooking at all, consider packing up an extra suitcase or box with your favorite spices and
staples such as flour and sugar and bring it with you. We aren't allowed keep those items in the condo, so you'll either need to bring
them or buy them after you arrive.
